While everybody loves snapping around, taking a good picture isn’t easy. And taking a good action picture is an art in itself. Especially when it comes to surf photography. Which is why we asked professional surf photographer Lucia Griggi (who is even giving courses if you wanna get in deeper) to share her best tips with us.

Underwater Beauty
Shot in the depths of Maui, Hawaii, this was by no means an easy shot to get. With battering waves above and churned-up water, the hunt for the turtle took us a good few days. Finally, I took this portrait of model Emma Skinner and turtle ‘Alfred’ deep on the reef of Maui’s undiscovered depths. Shot with the 5D with the 15mm 2.8 in an underwater housing.

It is important to shoot as strikingly as possible when it comes to the cover shot! The cover image makes the magazine sell to those people that pass on by looking at hundreds of images and titles staring them in the face and stop when their eyes hit one that stands out and seems interesting to pick up! Imagery is as important as text and can make or break whether a sale is made, its is immediately recognised in the brain as an image is processed in the mind quicker than a word is.
